In the mountain behind Pinglin Junior High School, the Guanyin Statue was originally a Japanese temple. 40 feet in height, the statue not only is a local landmark but also the tallest bronze Guanyin statue in Northern Taiwan. A round trip between the trailhead and statue takes only 15 minutes, which can be a good easy exercise for the visitors.
Shimen (Stone) Arch
Located about 29 kilometers along the No. 2 Provincial Highway is Shimen (Stone) Arch. This is not a cave at all, but a stone arch formed by erosion. Standing at the side of the highway, it offers an excellent spot to look out at the sea. On top of the stone arch there are seats and what remains of a gun emplacement.
