After the sealing off of this centuries old mine since 1959, it has seen daylight again with reconstruction from hearty locals. The Gaidankent coal mine boasts of the greatest production among mines beneath the mountain (Zhanjijiao) at the time. After the Japanese took control of Taiwan, Zhanjijia station was built due to the resources from Gaidanken coal mine for exclusive coal transportation use. There were over thousands of people here during the height of Gaidankeng production.
