Located in the downtown Banqiao District of New Taipei City, the Cihui Mazu temple was the religious center of Mazu worship in the seventeen villages of the Peitsie Fort, and was considered one of the Peitsie Fort’s main five temples along with the Wenchang temple in Banggiu street (present-day Banqiao District), the Jieyun temple in Banggiu street (present-day Banqiao District), Guangji temple in Bangliao (Present-day Zhonghe District), and Damugong temple in Daianliao village (Present-day Tucheng District). The Cihui Mazu temple, which attracts many visitors, is the oldest Mazu temple in the Banqiao area; the traditional architecture is surrounded by residential houses, which makes for an interesting contrast.

Ceramic fragments, sculptures and paintings are used to decorate the interior and exterior of the temple, the splendor and exquisiteness of this architecture demonstrating the beauty of traditional art. Many precious historical artifacts are preserved in the temple, such as the ancient plaques and the dragon pillars dating back to the Guangxu and Tongzhi periods of the Qing Dynasty, allowing visitors to explore ancient times in a treasure hunt. One of the most interesting features is the statues of Qianliyan and Shunfeng’er, Mazu’s right-hand men, who hold gold ingots in their hands, representing future wealth and treasure. Because of this, the Cihui Mazu temple attracts a large number of people who come to pray for prosperity during Chinese New Year.
