Sized at approximately 6 ha, the Shimen Kite Park is located near Laomei in Shimen. It is the most ideal location in Southeast Asia for flying kites and hosting international competitions. The Park was established to celebrate the annual grand festival held in Shimen District – the Shimen Kite Festival. Throughout the years, the Shimen Kite Festival has attracted numerous domestic and foreign skilled kite enthusiasts every year, bringing substantial tourism benefits to the area. Through the establishment of the Shimen Kite Park, domestic and foreign kite enthusiasts and even families and lovers can have an ideal venue for flying kites and enjoying the fun of riding on the wind.
Shimen is renowned as “The Homeland of Kites.” Thanks to its ideal terrain for kite flying, the annual Kite Festival held here has become a distinctive feature of Shimen District, attracting numerous skilled kite enthusiasts, both domestic and foreign, to showcase their skills. Each year, a variety of kites take to the skies to compete with each other, creating a spectacular and eye-catching display. This festival also encourages kite enthusiasts to unleash their creativity and innovate old-fashioned kites from their childhood. In addition to hand-flying kites, participants are also encouraged to handcraft their own kites. This results in a wide array of innovative designs, injecting new vitality into the kite culture.
