Upon entering General Hu Lien’s former residence, the first thing that catches your eye is the garden adorned with four majestic hoop pines, symbolizing General Hu Lien’s rank as a First-Class General in the Army. The Dragon Chinese Juniper (Juniperus chinensis L. var. kaizuka) in the garden represents General Hu Lien’s style name, “Po Yu”, revealing the grandeur of the general’s residence amidst its simplicity. General Hu Lien served as the commander of the Twelfth Army Corps, the Commander of Kinmen Defense, the Chairman of the Fujian Provincial Government, the Special Ambassador with Full Powers to the Republic of Vietnam, and a Strategic Advisor to the Presidential Office. He participated in the Battle of Songhu, the Defense of Shipai, the Battle of Kuningtou, the Second Taiwan Strait Crisis, and achieved remarkable military accomplishments, making significant contributions to the nation.

During his tenure as the Commander of Kinmen Defense, General Hu Lien successfully fortified the defense of Kinmen and established the Kinmen Distillery. He was not only relied upon by the country, but also endeared himself to the local residents. When he served as the Ambassador to the Republic of Vietnam during the Vietnam War, he earned international recognition for his diplomatic endeavors. The Residence has opened its foyer, dining room, living room, study, bedroom, and other spaces to showcase a wealth of historical artifacts from General Hu’s time in mainland China, Kinmen, and Vietnam. Additionally, it features treasured calligraphy gifted by the renowned calligrapher Yu You-ren, making it a treasure trove for the study of modern history.
