Sanxia was formerly known as Sanjiaoyong, it was the main production area of assam indigo (also known as strobilanthes cusia), a plant used to make blue dye. Our forefathers produced dyes from assam indigo found in the mountain areas of Sanxia and used fresh water from Sanxia River to rinse the dyed fabric. As a result, the blue dye industry was developed amid the serene environment, and Sanxia’s fabric dyeing industry flourished and became very popular on the Old Street.

“Sanxia Blue Dyeing Festival” aims to continue and rebuild the heritage of blue dyeing culture, thereby establishing the brand and core values of “Sanxia Dyeing”. Through the series of events, arts and creative talents are invited to facilitate the exchange of blue dyeing culture by combining performing arts with popular everyday life elements, in turn expanding local participation and demonstrating the character and charisma of the fabric dyeing street. Related activities include the blue dye boutique exhibition, blue dye industry talent cultivation, DIY experiences and photo contests, etc.
