Chiang Chih-wei, Commissioner of Tourism and Travel Department of New Taipei City Government, stated that, the Tamsui-Kavalan Trails have once again shone internationally despite the language barriers. We expect more travelers coming to explore the Tamsui-Kavalan Trails and to learn more about Taiwan by a hike in these trails.

It is the 14th ART & TUR - International Tourism Film Festival this year. The festival is one of the fourteen tourism film festivals selected by the International Tourism Film Festival Association (CIFFT). It is also an important award valued by all tourism, media, and advertising professionals. Chiang Chih-wei, Commissioner of Tourism and Travel Department of New Taipei City Government, said that, the Tamsui-Kavalan Trails have been realigned, restored, and promoted with local partners since 2017. These efforts are echoing the pioneers’ endeavor in cultivating the land. We are glad to see this project have come to fruition. The film “Tamsui-Kavalan Trails Trilogy” has demonstrated the strength and vitality of the trail in many ways. The recognition given by the film festival jury is an acknowledgment of New Taipei City government’s dedication and Taiwanese culture.

Maria Blajite, one of the judges at ART & TUR film festival, stated that, all over the world, Caminhos de Santiago cultural route has served as an inspiring model for the preservation of cultural heritage based on long-distance cultural trails. The beautiful film “Tamsui-Kavalan Trails Trilogy,” of high artistic value, offers the viewer a shining example of the love and respect that a group of volunteers dedicate to culture and nature, restoring the trail that was created through eco-craft methods during the Qing Dynasty to link Tamsui Prefecture to Kavalan Prefecture in northern Taiwan. This film leaves no one indifferent, and can even reach the depths of the soul of the most sensitive, such is the charm of how it combines traditional Chinese music, with bucolic landscapes of nature and images that describe the laborious action of the volunteers who rebuild the track.

Xiao Qing-Yang , who directed the film, expressed that he found Tamsui-Kavalan Trails fascinating when he first approached the trail in 2018. “Tamsui-Kavalan Trails Trilogy” is assembled by the pieces in Director Xiao’s previous works “The Tao of Kung Fu,” “The Tao of Ancestors,” and “The Tao of Health” over the past three years. Walking through the northern, central, and southern routes, Mr. Xiao wishes to document the beauty of nature, and convey the deep reflections about the origin of the trails, namely the great challenges in exploring and building from scratch, through the film.

The northern, central, and southern routes of Tamsui-Kavalan trails restored. Many documentaries about restoration are now available on the website of Tamsui-Kavalan Trails for the general public to better understand the facts about Tamsui-Kavalan Trails gradually. The website also provides some exclusive itineraries for the trails. Among them, the towns of Shenkeng, Shiding, and Pinglin on the southern routes are suitable destinations for day trips in these ancient trails and settlements for all ages. People are welcomed to explore their own “Tamsui-Kavalan Trails”.
