"Romance at Pingxi – Yes, I Do" Sky Lantern Festival To Launch Tomorrow
Mayors of Four Cities in Northern Taiwan to Meet in New Taipei to Exchange and Discuss Mutual Collaboration
[New Taipei City] The landmark climax event of the 2023 New Taipei City Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival, "Romance at Pingxi – Yes, I Do" is set to be held tomorrow (February 11) at Pingxi Junior High School. New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-Ih has invited Taipei City Mayor Chiang Wan-an, Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-cheng and Keelung Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang to join the event. In addition to the joint release of the 20-foot heart-shaped twin main sky lanterns, a platform meeting will be held prior to the event to discuss issues of mutual collaboration and benefit between the cities.
According to the New Taipei City Government, due to the geographical proximity, the citizens of the four cities have become inextricably linked in both life and work, with a long history of collaboration and integration in various municipal governance issues such as transportation and culture. New Taipei City Cultural Affairs Department Director-General Kung Ya-wen noted that for the first time, the mayors of the four cities will converge in New Taipei during the Sky Lantern Festival. At 4:30 p.m. at the site of the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival, a conference was held in advance, "Keelung-Taipei-New Taipei - Taoyuan Cooperation and Exchange Platform" to reach a consensus on urban governance and regional cooperation, combining a number of issues and activating the cooperation and exchange platform.
The New Taipei City Government also pointed out that in response to the coming Western Valentine's Day on February 14, the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival has created a heart-shaped double main sky lantern and 100 heart-shaped sky lanterns to create a happy and romantic atmosphere for Valentine's Day. The city hopes to attract a large number of tourists to visit Pingxi through the highly anticipated annual sky lantern festival, and people at the event can also illuminate the night sky of Pingxi by setting off hundreds of pink heart-shaped sky lanterns. Members of the public can line up at 10:00 a.m. on the day of the event to collect their free sky lantern vouchers. Recently, Turkey was hit by a serious earthquake, and the sky lanterns have always been used to pray for good luck and blessings, so event-goers can also pray for Turkey by releasing sky lanterns.
The exciting evening will feature performances by local groups and celebrity artists, including the Pingxi Junior High School Ten Drum Band, singer-songwriter Andy Tung, fellow singers Zunya, Angel Lin, and Yang Lin, and the boy band, Acqua Boys for the grand finale, adding an exciting and livelier flair the deeper into the night. In addition to the evening gala event, three other major installations, a neon-lit wall, a photo gallery and a wishing tree will be illuminated from 17:00 to 22:00 every night until February 28. In addition, on February 12, a mountain hiking and cleanup event are offered to experience the ecology and culture of Pingxi, led by the New Taipei City Mountaineering Association. For the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival, event-goers are encouraged to take public transportation, use shuttle buses to get to and from the event site, and take epidemic-prevention preventive measures to have fun and return home safely.
