Sky Lanterns and Serpent Shadows Light Up the Pingxi Lantern Festival

【New Taipei City News】The internationally renowned "2025 Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival in New Taipei City" will take center stage on February 8 (Saturday) at Pingxi Junior High School and on February 12 (Wednesday, Lantern Festival) at Shifen Square. This year features the debut of the "Fortune Snake Glows" Sky Lantern Serpent Shadow Light Sculpture Show on February 8 and two days of unmissable performances! To welcome this annual celebration, the New Taipei City Government has arranged multiple shuttle bus routes and encourages the public to use public transportation.

The "2025 Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival" brings a stellar lineup of performances to deliver Lunar New Year blessings for the Year of the Snake! On February 8, the festivities kick off with a powerful opening performance by the Pingxi Junior High School Drum Team, followed by "Golden Serpent Lion Dance," "Little Dragon Plays with Pearls," "Blessed Serpent Welcomes Prosperity—Electronic Techno Gods," and "Twinkle Black Obsidian Elves." The day's grand finale will feature the cheerleading group "Fortune Girls." Event ambassador Lee Duo-Hui will also join the crowd on February 8 to release sky lanterns!

This year marks the premiere of the "Fortune Snake Glows" Sky Lantern Serpent Shadow Light Sculpture Show, an innovative combination of sky lantern releases and light projection displays. As hundreds of lanterns ascend into the night sky, a golden serpent symbolizing good fortune will gradually emerge from the ground, spreading happiness to all attendees. On February 12, the festival begins with the "Black Gold Era Dance Troupe" performing a dance to bless the Year of the Snake, followed by captivating acts from "Ukulele Master Lee Ji," "Sweet Fairy Lin Yuhan," and "New Generation Vocal Diva Shen Li'an."

To manage crowds and ensure smooth traffic flow, vehicle and motorcycle traffic will be restricted in the Pingxi area from 10:00 to 23:00 on both event days. On February 8, three shuttle bus routes will operate:

Muzha Zoo – Baishi Zhongpu
National Freeway 5 Shiding Interchange – Baishi Zhongpu
Ruifang Train Station – Lingjiao Liao

On February 12, five shuttle bus routes will be available:

Muzha Zoo – Shifen Nanshan Bridge
National Freeway 5 Shiding Interchange – Shifen Nanshan Bridge
Ruifang Train Station – Shifen Jiping Bridge
Keelung Train Station (South Station) – Shifen Jiping Bridge Head
Shuangxi Train Station – Shifen Jiping Bridge

Shuttle buses will charge for uphill rides only (downhill rides are free). Fares are NT$50 from Muzha, NT$30 from Shiding, Guanyin Temple, Ruifang Train Station, and Keelung Train Station, NT$15 from Jingtong Mine and Pingxi Junior High School, and free for the "Shuangxi Train Station – Shifen Jiping Bridge" route. Shuttle buses are not eligible for the Executive Yuan’s TPASS monthly pass discounts, and Taiwan Tourist Shuttle tickets will be temporarily unavailable during the event. Community buses will cease operations starting at 16:00 on both days. Additional trains will be added to the Pingxi Line during the event, with schedules posted on the official website.
