First printing of 1,000 Tamsui-Kavalan Trails – North Path almost sold out; second printing urgently published.
New Taipei City Government hosted the Book Launch Press Conference today (17th), where 5 experts on Tamsui Kavalan Trails shared their thoughts on the newly published book as, for the first time, a graphic recorder simultaneously noted down to display the characteristics of the new book. New Taipei City Mayor Hou You-yi noted that, “It is Taiwan’s first long-distance hiking trail, which is filled with history and local sentiments. And of course, the hiking trail is guaranteed to provide enough amount of workout.” It took 18 months of planning and editing, Tamsui-Kavalan Trails – North Path is Taiwan’s first travel book on Tamsui Kavalan Trails. Renowned nature writer Liu Ka-shiang pointed out, “Immediately after finishing the book, I just couldn’t wait to be on the road again to visit the century-old campus where I had spent parts of my school years.” After the pre-order began three weeks ago, it has already been receiving great response from the readers; and the first printing was almost sold out in 10 days.

Tamsui-Kavalan Trails – North Path invited Executive Director Chou Sheng-hsin and Vice Executive Director Hsu Ming-chien of Taiwan Thousand Miles Trail Association, along with outdoor hiking experts Wu Yun-tian and Gu Ting-wei, and other writers to contribute to the book. Mayor Hou expressed his special thanks to these hiking trail advocates, who had held pen in one hand and machete in the other to write these amazing pieces as they had all explored these routes themselves before. This book has also collaborated with K!d Jerry, an illustration artist who had been nominated for Grammy’s “Best Recording Package”, and seedesign that owns a large group of followers to draw out collectable pull-out maps and hand sketched illustration. At the press conference, renowned nature writer Liu Ka-shiang, XXO founder Michael Hu, and the rest of the contributors were all invited to share their thoughts on the newly published book. For the first time, graphic recorder Li Chia-yi also simultaneously put in drawing to display the special quality of the new book.

Tamsui-Kavalan Trails – North Path is an essential reference book for anyone setting off on their journey on the Tamsui Kavalan Trails. Flipping through different chapters of the book, readers will find explicit introductions of the humanistic and cultural history, stories of the small towns, animal and plant ecology environment, recommended routes, and hand-drawn trails in the North Path. After pre-order began three weeks ago, the book has been widely received, and one thousand copies in the first printing are nearly sold out. Now the second printing is urgently underway and another thousand copies are expected to be published in mid-June to satisfy every reader’s need. Mayor Hou You-yi said, “We’ve published them in hardcover as we are hoping this must-have book will be kept in every household or even be passed down for many generations to come.”
Marketing Tamsui Kavalan Trails through virtual and realistic integration for a multi-channel marketing.
New Taipei City Government is marketing Tamsui Kavalan Trails in diverse channels and integrating it with technology, where virtual reality (VR) is utilized for the most interactive experience. Related subsequent events will include: 2019 ZA SHARE Youth “Wisdom Beneath Our Feet: Learning from Tamsui-Kavalan Trails” exhibition taking place in Huashan 1914 Creative Park from May 17th (Friday) through May 19th (Sunday); Book Launch Sharing Seminar at Kingstone Banqiao Store on May 25th (Saturday); “2019 Taiwan Trail Day” in Yilan on June 1st. At yearend 2019, the electronic book of Tamsui-Kavalan Trails – North Path will also be published to introduce to the readers the natural beauty of Tamsui Kavalan Trails. The Trails that have witnessed century of glories in Northern Taiwan are categorized into three major trails of North, Central, and South Paths, with a total distance of approximately 200km; restoration of Tamsui Kavalan Trail – North Path (Guan Route) was completed in yearend 2018. In 2019, we will continue following the traces of historic trails and rebuilding Central and South Paths of Tamsui Kavalan Trails. We are looking forward to bringing back Tamsui Kavalan Trails’ old-time appearance in their completion and recreating Taiwan’s very own “Camino de Santiago”.
