Introduction

Shulin is known as the “Red Yeast Rice Hometown” in part because of innovative dishes made by restaurant chefs. One of the more popular creations is red yeast rice cake made by the Juhsuan dessert and bread company. Red yeast rice and red wine are added to cake, which is stuffed with egg yolk along with green and white bean paste. The final dessert is a cherry pink color with layered tastes that are neither too sweet nor too oily.
